Northwestern Vermont

northern vermont picture of Lake ChamplainThe western side of the mountain range reveals even more lakes and beautiful agricultural scenery with mountain views from every vista. Lake Champlain, on the far western border of Vermont, is Vermont's largest body of water, and is the sixth largest in the United States.

Burlington, the state’s largest city, overlooks the lake and offers a wide array of shopping from downtown marketplaces to malls. Weekly farmers markets during summer months get visitors closer to the locals, and many restaurants in the area feature seasonal produce in their cuisine. There's never a lack of choices in the greater Burlington area! One of the most laid-back things to do while visiting Vermont is just to drive and explore, and enjoy the covered bridges sprinkled throughout the area, harkening to bygone days of horse and buggy. The province of Quebec is close by, so a day trip to Montreal and back is easily done, returning in time for the nightly campfire.

Visitors will find every kind of campground for their stay, satisfying the need for a relaxing vacation or an invigorating adventure, in Northern Vermont. When camping in northern Vermont, visitors will find what they seek, in a region filled with interesting contrasts. Whether a quiet stay in a small campground, or a very large campground with many activities, Northern Vermont has them all.

© Rob Bossi: Hiking at Mt. SnowThere is a lot of fishing to be done in this area, in lakes large and small, as well as kayaking, canoeing and boating. Skirting the lakes are beaches and parks that invite picnicking and lazy summer afternoons. If biking is the activity of choice, there are areamaps specific to biking with a variety of length and skill level to choose from. Some of the best mountain biking trails in the Northeast are located in the Northeast Kingdom. Golfers enjoy a wide selection of courses (with reasonable rates) to try during a visit.

The Northern region has many colleges, large and small, that Vermont prides itself on. There are also many covered bridges harkening bygone days. The province of Quebec is close by, so a day trip to Montreal and back is easily done, returning in time for the nightly campfire. Visitors will find every kind of campground to visit, to satisfy the need for a relaxing vacation or an invigorating adventure, in northern Vermont.
